This calculator estimates Etsy's standard selling fees from the rates Etsy publishes, as checked on 14 October 2026. Etsy can change its fees at any time, and your Payment account statement is the final word. It does not include Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus, shipping labels bought on Etsy, refunds, customs duties, or income tax. Tax and VAT figures use the rates you enter. They are not tax advice. Exchange rates are reference rates, and Etsy converts at its own daily rate. Check your numbers before you set prices.

    How it works

Pick the country of your Etsy bank account, then enter your price, the shipping you charge and your costs. The calculator applies that country's Etsy rates and shows each fee, your payout, profit and margin. Enter a target profit or margin and it gives the item price you need, rounded up to the cent.

    How we calculate it

These are the same steps as "Show the working" in the calculator. A step appears there only when it applies to your order.

    1. Fee base: item price × quantity + shipping you charge + gift wrap. This is what the buyer pays before tax.
    2. Tax: if you enter a sales tax rate, tax = rate × (items + gift wrap, plus shipping if taxed). Etsy pays it to the state, so it is not in your payout.
    3. Listing fee: US$0.20 × quantity, converted at the exchange rate for non-US shops.
    4. Transaction fee: 6.5% × fee base.
    5. Payment processing: your country's % × (fee base + tax) + the fixed fee, once per order.
    6. Regulatory operating fee: your country's % × fee base.
    7. Offsite Ads: 15% or 12% × fee base, up to US$100 per order.
    8. Currency conversion: 2.5% × (fee base + tax), only when your listings and bank account use different currencies.
    9. VAT on fees: your VAT rate × the sum of the fees above.
    10. Total Etsy fees: all fees plus VAT, also shown as a % of the fee base.
    11. Net payout: fee base − total fees.
    12. Profit: net payout − cost per item × quantity − what shipping costs you.
    13. Margin: profit ÷ fee base.
    14. Price for a target: the percentage fees (r) and fixed fees (F) are added up. The fee base needed is (target profit + costs + F) ÷ (1 − r). For a margin it is (costs + F) ÷ (1 − r − margin). Take off shipping and gift wrap, divide by quantity, and round up to the cent. If Offsite Ads would pass the US$100 cap, the solve uses the capped fee instead. The calculator then checks the answer with the steps above.

Each fee is worked out unrounded and shown to the nearest cent, so the lines can differ from the total by a cent.

Example: a $25 item with $5 shipping (US)

    Fee base $25.00 + $5.00 = $30.00. Listing $0.20. Transaction 6.5% × $30.00 = $1.95. Processing 3% × $30.00 + $0.25 = $1.15. Total fees $3.30, which is 11.00% of what the buyer paid. With $8.00 cost of goods and $4.50 shipping cost, the profit is $30.00 − $3.30 − $8.00 − $4.50 = $14.20, a 47.33% margin.

    Questions

Why does Etsy charge fees on my shipping?

Etsy charges the 6.5% transaction fee, Offsite Ads and the regulatory fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap. Payment processing is on the whole order, including sales tax. On a $25 item with $5 shipping, the transaction fee is $1.95, not $1.63. Enter the shipping you charge so the calculator includes it.

Is Offsite Ads 15% or 12%, and is there a cap?

You pay only when a sale comes from an Etsy ad on another site within 30 days of the click. Shops that sold under US$10,000 in the last 365 days pay 15% and can opt out. Once a shop reaches US$10,000, ads are mandatory at 12% for the life of the shop. The fee is capped at US$100 per order.

What is the Regulatory Operating Fee?

It is a percentage Etsy adds in some countries to cover the cost of local rules. It is charged on the item, shipping and gift wrap, not on tax. From 22 June 2026 it is 0.48% in the UK, 1.14% in France, 0.80% in Italy and 0.88% in Spain. The calculator fills it in from your country.

Why am I charged VAT on Etsy's fees when my buyer paid no VAT?

VAT on fees is tax on the service Etsy sells you, not on your sale. Etsy adds it for sellers in the UK, the EU and several other countries, whatever the buyer paid. That is why your statement shows VAT lines next to the transaction, processing and regulatory fees. If you are VAT-registered and reclaim it, set the VAT field to 0 to see your real cost.

Why doesn't my Etsy statement match to the cent?

Etsy splits some fees into separate lines for the item and the shipping. Add them together to compare. Etsy also rounds each line to the cent, so totals can differ by a cent or two. US sales tax Etsy collects goes to the state, so it is not in your payout, but processing is still charged on it. After a refund, Etsy returns part of the processing fee in proportion.
